Choosing an Interior Wall Finish for Your Shipping Container

In most climates, the steel walls of a shipping container don’t provide enough protection from the elements. After insulating the custom shipping containers you can choose to have your walls finished in a variety of materials, including drywall, plywood, or fiberglass reinforced panels (FRP). Here are some pros and cons of a few interior wall finish options.

Drywall

Drywall helps improve insulation and retain room temperature much better than many alternatives, making it an energy-efficient choice. It is also cost efficient as well as attractive. Its smooth finish gives a clean and unobscured feeling to the walls and provides a ready-to-paint surface. Drywall also outperforms other finish materials in regards to fire resistance. Drywall can be installed prior to transportation, however it needs to be finished at the final location for the mud to not crack during transportation.

Plywood

Plywood is considerably stronger than drywall. With drywall you must find a stud to nail into, but you can hang heavy objects directly to a plywood surface. The extra strength of plywood also allows it to resist dents and damage. Plywood walls have a natural wood grain pattern that lends texture and a warm look to a space. It can be used naturally or finished with a couple of coats of varnish to create a sleek and modern effect.

Fiberglass Reinforced Panels (FRP)

Fiberglass reinforced panels (FRP) are made of strong polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass, providing a smooth or textured wall surface. FRPs are used to create a tough, easy to clean, water proof, washable surface. As the strongest wall finish we offer, its superior flexibility creates a very durable, scratch resistant inner space.
